Earnings Potential: $91,990 - $125,240

SUMMARY:
The Internal Communications & Employee Engagement Senior Manager leads and shapes MTA Bridges and Tunnels’ (MTA B&T, aka, Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority) internal communication strategy, bringing a dynamic, creative, and highly organized approach to enhancing employee engagement and information flow across the agency. B&T operates nine critical tolled vehicular crossings linking the five boroughs of New York City and administers toll collection for the Central Business District Tolling Program.
This position plays a pivotal role in fostering employee engagement, promoting agency values, and enhancing internal transparency and connectivity across departments and facilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to elevate employee experience through strategic messaging, storytelling, recognition events, and thoughtful engagement with staff at all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Internal Communications Strategy & Execution:
Serve as the point-person between B&T and MTA Headquarters Internal Communications.
Develop and manage content for internal channels, including MTA Today (intranet), MTA TV (digital screens), and Salesforce Marketing Cloud (email distribution).
Ensure that messaging is timely, relevant, accurate, and aligned with MTA B&T priorities and brand standards.
Collaborate with senior leadership, department heads, and stakeholders to gather stories and updates that reflect the agency’s mission, milestones, and employee achievements.
Intranet Management:
Serve as agency lead for intranet (MTA Today) content management; monitor and maintain to support internal engagement, transparency, and ease of access to agency information.
Collaborate with department heads to update and refresh content in alignment with agency priorities and employee needs.
Coordinate with IT, MTA Internal Communications, and MTA Headquarters to ensure content standards, platform functionality, and updates are effectively maintained.
Newsletter & Editorial Production
Research, write, edit, and produce quarterly digital employee newsletters, highlighting operational initiatives, employee profiles, departmental features, and facility highlights.
Source or create accompanying visual content, such as photos, infographics, or video clips. Secure necessary approvals and coordinate publishing schedules.
Social Media Management & Internet Website Updates:
Develop and maintain a professional social media presence in coordination with MTA HQ’s Customer Engagement team. Collaborate with internal departments to promote milestones, safety campaigns, and public-facing initiatives.
Regularly review and audit existing agency webpages on mta.info website for accuracy, relevance, and consistency in cooperation with MTA HQ.
Event Planning & Employee Engagement:
Plan and execute employee-facing recognition and engagement events (e.g., award ceremonies, milestone celebrations, retirements, holiday gatherings, Health Fair, Bring Your Future to Work, etc.). Lead B&T’s participation in external events such as the New York International Auto Show, New York State Fair, and industry forums.
Develop strategic event plans including timelines, budgets, stakeholder coordination, and performance metrics.
Agency Initiatives & Special Projects:
Support the Office of the President with executive communications, internal announcements, and special initiatives.
Assist in the editorial and production process of the monthly Board Committee Report, including coordination with various departments for content submissions and executive review.
Coordinate quarterly agency-wide meetings to deliver content from the President and Executive Leadership Team.
Staff Supervision:
Oversee a small team of 1–3 staff members responsible for supporting internal communications, event coordination, content creation, and digital engagement.
Provide guidance, delegate tasks, and ensure high-quality deliverables aligned with department goals.
Support team development through regular feedback, mentorship, collaboration and performance review.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree preferred in Communications, Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, Management, Finance, Technology, Digital Media, Planning or a related field
Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in internal communications, public affairs, digital media, or a related area
Minimum of one (1) year experience in managerial or supervisory capacity
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Proficient with web-based platforms and digital tools; experience with creative software such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator (or similar)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to tailor messaging for diverse employee audiences across departments and organizational levels
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative working relationships across departments
Proven ability to deliver results, drive continuous improvement, and support organizational effectiveness
Strong team building, listening, problem-solving, and prioritization skills
Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and resourceful; capable of managing shifting priorities and multiple projects independently
Must be able to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and common sense in handling sensitive or confidential matters
Flexibility to work outside regular business hours for special projects or events
Ability to travel to other MTA locations or external sites as needed
PREFERRED
Proficiency in working with web-based technology and creative graphic design tools and programs (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, others)
Working knowledge of communication strategy, content creation, and internal communications best practices
Ability to conceptualize and provide creative direction for visual and video content
Knowledge of MTA transportation services, agency structure, and procedures
Knowledge of industry terminology and internal communications trends

MTA Bridges and Tunnels is governed by the Civil Service Rules and Regulations administered by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).
