Summary
Technical Specialist 3 will be involved in all MTA C&D project lifecycle phases, including planning, scheduling, analysis, design, technical specifications, and reports.
Responsibilities
The role will entail some of these typical duties:
Designs various aspects of a project for MTA systems and infrastructure.
Performs technical and feasibility studies, including analyzing historical data, surveys, reports, and as-builts to create innovative design projects.
Reviews designs, performs/reviews tests and assessments of equipment, software, and materials, and functions/reviews technical calculations.
Conducts site visits to obtain existing conditions and correctly identify project design and delivery risks.
Provides technical field support for system/equipment installation and project construction.
Embraces mentoring from senior staff.
Adheres to corporate quality control standards within the area of technical expertise.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
Must have a minimum of six (6) years of related experience.
Competencies:
Knowledge of 3GPP specifications for cellular telecommunications technologies, including radio access, core network and service capabilities,
5G Certifications: Desirable
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations for transportation systems, including safety and security protocols
Ability to adapt to emerging technologies and methodologies in a complex transportation network design.
5G Technologies: Experience with 5G networks, including network slicing, wayside radio parameterization, synchronization and 5G core integration, and its application in transportation systems.
Cybersecurity: Strong awareness of cybersecurity principles, frameworks (e.g., NIST, IEC), and practices relevant to transportation and communication systems.
Database Management: Familiarity with database management systems (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL) for data storage and retrieval.
Networking Protocols: Familiarity with networking principles, operational traffic based on TCP/IP, UDP, and advanced routing protocols (OSPF, SR-MPLS, ISIS, BGP).
Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking for network design and troubleshooting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to mentor junior engineers, lead integration issues to resolutions and lead technical discussions.
