Responsibility:
This Level 2 Supervisor position in the New York City Transit Department of Subways (DOS) Safety division is critical to ensuring the safety and compliance of all DOS projects and facilities. You will conduct on-site audits of various projects, including cleaning, construction, and maintenance activities. This involves working directly on the right of way, amidst active projects, to meticulously examine work sites, flagging procedures, and overall adherence to established safety protocols. You will also thoroughly inspect Subway Facilities, Shops, and Yards, identifying existing and potential hazards and working with divisional management to mitigate them.
Beyond field work, you will provide guidance and support to DOS employees on a range of safety-related topics, including delivering training, clarifying safety rules and NYC Transit flagging procedures, and interpreting safety policy instructions. You will also oversee and manage critical safety programs, such as hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and crystalline silica training and medical assessments, ensuring their effective implementation and compliance with regulations.
This position requires active participation in emergency response, both on and off the right of way. You will coordinate with field personnel and supporting divisions to ensure effective communication and resource utilization to maintain safety during emergencies. This also includes gathering information, conducting investigations, and preparing comprehensive incident reports. You will also assist the Manager with daily operations, including communications, tour scheduling, and manpower allocation.
Communicating your findings effectively is crucial. You will generate clear, concise, and easily digestible reports for various audiences, including executives. Your reports should accurately reflect your audit and inspection findings, incident investigations, and program evaluations to facilitate understanding and informed decision-making.

Education and Experience:
Maintenance Supervisor Level I: Five (5) years of full-time experience; at least one (1) year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Desired Skills:
We are searching for a highly qualified individual with a comprehensive understanding of NYCT and Subways regulations, procedures, and policies. They must be familiar with maintenance responsibilities and possess hands-on experience in addressing technical difficulties and upholding safety protocols.
They will demonstrate a strong understanding of hazardous materials handling and asbestos abatement procedures. Must have successfully completed Track Flagging Refresher training within the past year. Must be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
