Position Objective:

This position directs the operations of all stations within the assigned district, which includes assuring customer service, cleaning services, parking, ticket selling, ambassadors, and facility maintenance standards are met. The position must respond to all train emergency disruptions on a 24/7 basis, as well as planned bus operations, to assist customers at all outlying stations. Oversee all station ambassadors at key stations.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises station cleaning, ticket selling, and station ambassador forces working within their district. This includes the training and qualification of all ticket sellers and custodians. Assist in the development of customer service standards, techniques, policies, and procedures.
  • Directs safety, cost control, and personnel administration for all departmental forces headquartered within their district.
  • Assists in the development of customer service, custodial, and maintenance standards in the assigned district, assuring all standards are maintained by departmental forces, outside contractors, and others working in their district. Signs off on Capital Program proposals and MTA Real Estate development proposals for station properties.
  • Responds to emergencies on a 24-hour / 7-day basis.
  • Interfaces with the general public, and local and county officials in matters pertaining to stations within assigned district.
  • Manage scheduled and unscheduled bus service operations in the assigned district to ensure the safety and reliability of service.
  • Perform monthly station inspections at various times of the day to ensure that station standards comply.
  • Oversee the parking operator’s field performance including preventative maintenance, emergency repair, and snow removal activities, etc., or your assigned district.

Required Qualifications:

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

 

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and/or comparable applications (i.e. Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Project).
  • Excellent human relations, customer service (internal and external), and motivational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and application of collective bargaining agreements (i.e. TCU).
  • Ability to oversee point-of-sale revenue activities, including the automated and manual collection of fare revenues.
  • Thorough knowledge of station maintenance and ticket-selling operations.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as a normal course of business.
  • Valid driver’s license.

The Following is/are preferred:

  • Familiarity with Metro-North Railroad Passenger Tariffs.

Required Education and Experience:

 

  • Associate degree in accounting, Computer Science, Technology, or a related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education, and/or technical credentials experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Minimum of (3) years of experience in an operations environment, preferably in a transportation organization.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing a diverse staff.

Other Information

This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.

According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).

Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
