Summary
Responsible to plan, lead, and coordinate the work of employees in their daily assignments. Responsible for the safe and economical use of available labor, materials, and equipment. In addition, a supervisor is required to enforce company policies and local, State, and federal-mandated Rules and Regulations. A Supervisor is responsible for the safety and well-being of all employees under his/her jurisdiction.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Plan, monitor, and coordinate construction/maintenance activities ensuring safe, cost-effective, high-quality performance, including field supervision.
- Enforce provisions of Labor Agreements ensuring communication of same to employees.
- Provide technical support to Track Forces.
- Work with other LIRR Departments on Joint Ventures.
- Lead Safety Meetings as per policy; conduct regular Safety Audits.
- Investigate on-the-job accidents for cause and prevention.
- Investigate track failures resulting in train delays to determine cause and future prevention as directed.
- Take all necessary steps to maintain safe, reliable train service and to restore interrupted service and vital systems in the most effective manner.
- Administer testing and evaluations for new employees.
- Review individual employee attendance records and expense accounts, to ensure conformance with Company Policies.
- Review time and payroll reports for accuracy.
- Monitor material usage and material reports to ensure proper inventory control.
- Review Vehicle Fleet records for accuracy and usage.
- Conduct training sessions on technical and safety issues as required.
- Attend Company meetings as required.
Qualifications
- Must possess one of the following two:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and four years of engineering/railroad-related experience and successful completion of the Junior Engineer Program in the Track Department.
OR
- Approximately 8 years of Track-related experience with recent experience in a leadership/supervisory capacity.
- Must be Qualified under 49 CFR 213.7.
- Must possess a demonstrated willingness to assume and handle responsibility.
- Must possess proficient computer skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Other Information
In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include, but is not limited to, a pre-screening assessment (i.e., physical, written and/ or practical evaluation) and interview. Candidates forfeit further consideration in the process if they fail to participate in any step of the process when scheduled. Make-up dates/times will not be given. In addition, LIRR employee applicants must be in their current position for the 12 months immediately preceding the close date of this posting and must possess a satisfactory work history, including attendance and discipline record. A record of more than ten sick days without medical documentation in two of the last three years is considered unsatisfactory attendance. Not all qualified applicants are guaranteed an interview due to the competitive selection process. A medical examination and safety-sensitive drug/alcohol test may also be required.
