This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.
SUMMARY:
This position exists to support Senior Director of Energy Finance in identification, management and execution of strategies across the MTA family that will generate energy cost savings. The position designs data collection and analysis methodology and manages field observation, research, and modeling, including modeling of the energy costs. The end result of the analyses enables the design of strategies and programs to optimize decision-making, optimize resource allocation and improve efficiency and effectiveness through revised MTA energy management practices. The position also leads the management of annual budgets, invoicing from vendors, and leads individual Energy Finance projects as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Select, develop and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review performance of staff. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.
- Conduct quantitative analysis including financial modeling to support and inform critical decisions, which will impact MTA’s cost structure.
- Support contract management and negotiations in Energy Finance area in order to reduce cost of energy and increase energy efficiency. In addition, specific responsibilities include:
- Supporting deliberations and negotiations with NYPA during annual cost of service process, support management of NYPA Long Term Agreement, and application of surcharge processes
- Supporting LIPA agreement negotiations
- Supporting tension/low tension differential modeling to support MTA’s participation in the ConEd/Public Service Commission Rate Making proceedings to advocate for MTA’s interests.
- Manage Energy Finance RFP processes, including issuing RFPs, evaluating proposals, selecting vendors, and supporting Energy Finance Senior Director with vendor’ change management.
- Supporting the Energy Finance Senior Director to drive consulting work towards valuable analyses and consolidating them to provide strategic decision-making recommendations in a timely manner.
- Managing energy efficiency and demand management projects, such as the SmartCharge incentive program
- Responsible to observe the work performed by the contractor; reviewing invoices and approving them if the work has contractual standards; addressing performance issues with the contractor when possible; and escalating issues to other parties as needed.

- Must have high level comprehensive Excel modeling.
- Must have excellent project management, analytical and problem-solving skills, together with demonstrated quantitative skills, proficiency in Excel modeling and attention to detail

- Demonstrated analytical capabilities and quantitative skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree with outstanding academic achievement or the equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible work or internship experience. A Master’s Degree or experience in high level comprehensive Excel modeling may be used to substitute for up to 2 years of work experience.
- Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership abilities.
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Finance, Mathematics or related field preferred
- Prior experience working in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body.
- Familiarity with the MTA’s policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with the MTA’s collective bargaining procedures.
