Responsibilities:        
This position is responsible for providing technical assistance, support, and knowledge transfer, regarding the maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of numerous Fire Detection Systems, Gas Detection, and Fire Suppression Systems located throughout NYCT locations. Responsibilities also include critical system issue resolution, performing diagnostics, and acting as liaison with various support and material vendors; reviewing specifications, new installations, upgrades, design drawings, field inspections, surveys, and conducting training for in-house operations staff. This position will interact with Construction Managers and support groups throughout the construction process to ensure these systems are installed and maintainable in accordance to applicable NYCT Policies, NFPA, State, and Local Codes.        
        
Education and Experience:        
        
1.    A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, fire safety, environmental or occupational safety, ergonomics, statistics, mathematics, chemical, physical or biological sciences, industrial hygiene, safety management, or a related field; plus at least two years of satisfactory full-time experience in professional system safety-related work; or         
2.    An associate degree from an accredited college or university in a field listed in “1” above; plus four years of satisfactory, full-time experience in professional system safety-related work; or         
3.    A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus six years of satisfactory, full-time professional system safety-related work; or         
4.    Education and/or experience equivalent to that listed in “1”,"2" or “3” above. A master's degree in any of the fields indicated above may be substituted for one year of experience.         
        
Special Notes         
1. To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the qualification requirements, either one year served in the Transit Authority at Assignment Level I or one additional year performing duties described in "1" above.         
2. To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the qualification requirements, either one year served in the Transit Authority at Assignment Level II or two additional years performing duties described in "1" above.         
3. To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV, individuals must have, after meeting the qualification requirements, either one year served in the Transit Authority at Assignment Level III or three additional years performing duties described in "1" above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory position.        
        

         

        
Desired Skills        
Experience in life safety system design, plan review, and commissioning.        
        
In depth knowledge of the Building and Fire Codes of the State of New York, NYC Fire Prevention Code, NYC Fire Department Rules and Regulations, and National Fire Protection Association Standards.        
        
NYS Code Enforcement Certification, NICET I, II, III, or IV Certification         
Strong Analytical, Technical, and Communication skills
