SUMMARY   
 
Responsible to prepare electrical designs including drawings, specifications, estimates and material lists in the most economical manner meeting all LIRR design criteria and standards previously set.  Review Electrical Drawings by 3rd party consultants for the installation of new electrical systems for accuracy and compliance with LIRR standards.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
 
  • Review designs and specifications submitted by outside consultants.
  • Design and upgrade new and existing electrical installations.  Prepare estimates and material requisitions.
  • Research and investigate products to be used for electrical installations.  Meet with manufacturer representatives to discuss requirements.
  • Interdepartmental coordination of design tasks, as well as interaction with outside utilities
  • Review and evaluate outside contractor proposed product usage.
  • Select, develop, and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees. Promote safe work practices and provide safe working conditions. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to guidelines of company safety policies and procedures. Lead by example.
  • Perform other assignments as requested by Senior Engineer Department Management.
QUALIFICATIONS:  
 A.
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical Technology.  Demonstrated, directly related, equivalent experience and education may be considered in lieu of the degree, subject to approval.
  • Must possess related experience (approximately 3 years) in Engineering and/or design OR completion of Junior Engineer Training Program including experience working in the Power department.
  • Must be able to work well with Third Party Vendors and Consultants
  • Must possess knowledge of national standards and codes such as ANCI, NEMA, IES, IEEE, OSHA, NESC and NEC.
  • Must be self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess effective problem solving, strong analytical decision-making and PC skills.
B.
  • A broad knowledge of the entire LIRR electrical system including Light, Power, High Tension, Electric Traction and Substations.
  • Knowledge in operations of (CADD) design systems.
  • Professional Engineering License.
Wage Rates:
Step 1 - 80% Rate of Pay     $39.905761 
Step 2 - 90% Rate of Pay     $44.893981 
Step 3 - Full Rate of Pay     $49.882201

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include, but is not limited to, a pre-screening. assessment (i.e., physical, written and/ or practical evaluation) and interview.
