Compensation: 

Salary Range: 

System Safety Spec.Trainee SS1: $48,220 - $54,768 

System Safety Spec.Trainee SS2: $52,073 - $62,004 

Responsibilities: 

The System Safety Specialist Trainee will assist with the development and implementation of fire/life safety policies and procedures, interpretation of applicable codes and standards, review of design drawings and specifications for fire/life safety requirements, conducting field safety surveys and inspections.  The Trainee will assist with acceptance test witnessing and on-site inspections of new and existing fire suppression/detection systems; coordinating/conducting interagency emergency preparedness exercises; work with Construction Managers during the installation of fire protection systems to ensure compliance with NFPA Standards and applicable local codes.  The Trainee will assist with responding to and conducting investigation of fires that occur on the system that cause significant property damage or result in injuries to customers or employees. The selected candidate must be available for emergency response duties (in company vehicle) and have a valid Driver's license. 

Education and Experience: 

For Appointment to SS1:
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, fire safety, environment or occupational safety, industrial hygiene, safety management or a related field.

For appointment to SS2:
Completion of 1 year of satisfactory service at Step 1 or a Masters degree in one of the fields of study mentioned in '1' above.
 

Desired Skills: 

  • Experience in fire safety inspections and fire investigation cause & origin determination. 
  • Knowledge of fire safety related codes and standards including NFPA, NYC, NY State and International Building codes. 
  • Strong computer, written and verbal communication skills.

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.
