Responsibilities
Under general supervision and with broad scope for the exercise of independent judgment, selected candidate will be responsible for providing management with highly technical assistance, or supervisory responsibilities, for the analysis, design, development, implementation, troubleshooting, enhancement, maintenance and security of software and applications at varying levels of difficulty for equipment used by Electronics Maintenance Telecommunication systems and associated test equipment in the operations environment.
Responsibilities include assisting with firmware installation and upgrades, software installations and upgrades, data analysis for configuration/provisioning of equipment, remote monitoring; maintaining and updating documentation; testing applications and reporting, developing and implementing technical procedures related to software-hardware required to maintain systems availability. Additional responsibilities include updating internal databases such as Remedy or EAM, creating queries to pull reports, and driving a motor vehicle.
Selected candidate will serve as a Liaison with headquarters information technology (MTA-IT), vendors, other in-house maintenance groups, and user departments. Provide technical support and knowledge transfer and training (as required) to other NYCT staff.
Telecommunication systems equipment include, but are not limited to, Emergency Alarms (EA) Monitoring System, A.K.A. Keltron, Emergency Telephones Monitoring System, Customer Assistance Intercoms (CAI), Emergency Booth Communication System (EBCS), IP intercoms, IP clocks, Public Address and Audio Systems, Six Wire.
Education and Experience
COMPUTER SPECIALIST I-IV (OPERATIONS)
1. A certificate from an accredited technical school (approximately 675 hours) with a specialization in computer operations plus a four-year high school diploma or its
educational equivalent, and three years of satisfactory, full-time computer operations experience in a large-scale mainframe or multi- tiered computer environment, or
three years of satisfactory data communications network experience in a mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment, one year of which must have been in
a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network
experience as described in "1" above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as
described in "1" above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational
equivalent and three years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as described in "1" above, one year of which
must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project
Desired Skills
- Experience and understanding in telecommunications systems.
- Telecommunications and Data Networks experience.
- Working Knowledge of EMD communication assets.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiar with MTA and NYCT Safety work environment.
