Summary
The Director of Design has technical authority for establishing and auditing design delivery standards for all engineering and architectural disciplines in C&D Delivery/Systems.
The Director of Design manages all architectural and engineering design processes within a Delivery Business Unit to conform to professional industry and MTA C&D standards. This position fosters key technical thought leaders who are experts in their discipline to provide MTA with cutting-edge solutions in driving design innovation and conformance.
Responsibilities
Oversees entire design/design compliance review team.
Fosters a culture of innovation and change in design delivery methods, technologies, and strategy.
Provides Systems with lessons learned and strategies to streamline design reviews and creates training opportunities across integrated project teams.
Establishes, monitors, and/or audits the Design-Builder's design and engineering activities for compliance with the Contract requirements and the Design-Builder's Quality Control Plan.
Accountable for holding agency reviewers responsible for design review duration commitments.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction or Project Management, Business Administration, Transportation, or a related field.
Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years in the management of design projects or supervisory roles in a large, multi-faceted organization.
Competencies:
Licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect required.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders at all internal levels within the organization.

Must have focus and ability to deliver on results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.

Must possess excellent team-building, listening, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
Proficient computer skills (i.e., Windows environment, Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.) and strong business administrative skills (i.e., presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.).
