SALARY RANGE: 

$109,826 to $144,146

Summary 

The Fire Marshal manages a team of fire prevention managers and specialists that ensures MTA C&D's responsibility for compliance with the State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and the Fire Prevention Plan on the department level. This position directs staff to ensure that assigned projects are reviewed and approved at the project's definition, design, construction, and acceptance steps for fire life safety. 

  

Responsibilities 

Manages and ensures completion of all portions of fire prevention, including reviewing and approving plans for fire life safety, performing fire inspections, fire investigations, and operational permits, and fully understanding and implementing the administrative requirements of the Uniform Code. 

Directs the deployment of staff and consultants to provide fire prevention services to assigned projects.  

Manages utilization of third-party services to minimize the review and inspection process. 

Manages effective organization to efficiently provide the status of fire prevention activities through metric-based deliverables. 

Effectively manages assigned staff, including the assignment of projects based on the needs of the Office. 

  

Education and Experience 

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Fire Science/Safety, or a related field.   

  

Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience. 

  

Must have a minimum of five (5) years in a managerial or supervisory role and/or project manager role in a large, multi-faceted organization.  

  

One of the following is required:  Licensed Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, NFPA CFPS, ICC Certified Fire Marshal, Certified NICET Fire Protection System Level II or equivalent. 

  

Fire Investigator Certification is desirable. 

  

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  

Experience with major construction projects with highly complex systems preferred. 

  

Must be a Certified Code Enforcement Official within 18 months of hire. 

  

Demonstrated ability to work in a high-profile, high-pressure environment effectively. 

  

Must have focus and ability to deliver on results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement. 

  

Must possess excellent team-building, listening, problem-solving, and prioritization skills. 

  

Proficient computer skills (i.e., Windows environment, Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.) and strong business administrative skills (i.e., presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.).  

  

Must be a proven leader as a change agent and creative/innovative thinker with the ability to align business goals with solutions to drive process improvements. 

  

Must possess excellent team-building, listening, problem-solving, and  

prioritization skills.

Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the "Commission").
