Compensation:    

Salary Ranges   

Assistant Civil Engineer: $71,726 - $93,587   

Civil Engineer I: $85,147-$107,227   

Civil Engineer II: $101,229-$122,295   

Civil Engineer III: $113,239- $133,496   

    

Candidates selected for this position on the NYC Transit payroll may be placed in a competitive or non-competitive class position based on their qualifications. Responsibilities:    

   

The incumbent(s) will perform professional engineering activities including surveying, design and construction of railways projects of various sizes and complexities (i.e., track, and track switches) in support of the track construction and track maintenance groups on the Division of Track. Track engineering also supports procurement, inspection and testing and creates and maintain standard drawings for the track construction. Track engineering is responsible for responding to emergencies such as derailment and investigates the cause and create a detailed report. Track engineering is handling all capital construction shop drawings, switch inspections. Track engineering is responsible for creating detail drawings of track special work portion after surveying.     

    

Education and Experience:    

    

Assistant Civil Engineer   

  1. A Baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
  2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and a master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.

    

Civil Engineer   

A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License and either:    

  1. A master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
  2. Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.

   

In addition to the above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in level II and III, individuals must have at least one (1) year within the last three (3) years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.   

    

Note: A degree in any other engineering area, or in any engineering technology area, is not acceptable.   

    

Desired Skills:   

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite and internet and mobile applications, as well as MicroStation and nonconformity databases.
  • Knowledge of structural inspection of concrete and steel.
  • Ability to read and write technical drawings and correspondence.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction design and code issues covering multiple city agencies.

    

Selection Method:   

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.   

    

All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
