Responsibilities:
This highly technical position is responsible for planning and designing voice and data communications networks throughout all NYC Transit facilities. Including and not limited to the installation, upgrade, configuration management, monitoring, and maintenance of NYCT’s LAN/WAN (Routers/Switches) telecommunication systems and equipment: SNA, IP, SIP (Session Internet Protocol) LoS (Line of Sight). Candidates should also have experience utilizing and managing various network management and monitoring systems such as SolarWinds, NNMI (Network Node Manager), WUG (WhatsUpGold), Teoco, that monitors NYCT’s ATS-A, PACIS, PSLAN, FCLAN, AFC, UPS network as well as other server-driven Virtual Machine (VM) systems.
The selected candidate will:
- Serve as the liaison with various support and material vendors, in-house maintenance groups and user departments; provides technical support and knowledge transfer and training (as required) to other NYCT staff
- Manage projects during design, reviewing procedures, drawings, contract specifications and implementation/turn-up of communication systems; provides critical maintenance of next generation and converging technologies such as VOIP and Cisco Call Managers.
- Support the remote PBX telephone network, programming telephone users and applications in the PBX network, user accounts administration, setting up voice mail boxes, installing and updating PBX systems in the network, configuring Voice Over IP and Unified communications systems, integrating PBX systems into the Authority data network, programming ACD and IVR systems, integrating voice recording systems into the PBX, and other related PBX functions.
Education and Experience:
Computer Associate I-III:
- A certificate from an accredited technical school (approximately 675 hours) with a specialization in computer operations, and two years of satisfactory full-time computer operations experience, in a large-scale networked, multi-tiered, or mainframe computer environment, or two years of satisfactory data communications network experience working in a mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
- A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least two years of full-time experience as described in "1" above.
Computer Specialist I-IV:
- A certificate from an accredited technical school (approximately 675 hours) with a specialization in computer operations plus a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and three years of satisfactory, full-time computer operations experience in a large-scale mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment, or three years of satisfactory data communications network experience in a mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as described in ‘1’ above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as described in ‘1’ above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and three years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as described in "1" above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project.
Desired Skills:
- Strong knowledge of IP networking.
- Advanced PBX programming.
- Call Center management experience (preferably in an Avaya or Cisco Call Manager environment).
- Strong working knowledge of Avaya Aura CM 6.x or higher, Aura Messaging, Call Management System (CMS) 16.x or higher, NICE or Verint recording system, IP Office 9.x or higher, SAL NECTAR, Ribbon (C20 Platform) and VPFM is preferred.
- Experience managing and/or installing PBX, Unified Communications, and Call Center systems, particularly Voice Over IP systems, may be substituted for computer systems development, programming, and data base administration.
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MaBSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
