Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with NYCT’s electronic hardware maintenance including but are not limited to the installation, upgrade, configuration management, monitoring and maintenance of NYCT's various radio and security systems. Maintenance typically includes fault identification, analysis, resolution, implementation of various radio systems, radio dispatch communications control systems, Monitor, Control and Alarm System
(MCAS), and utilizing various tools, test equipment & analyzers to perform diagnostics required to check the performance of equipment. The selected candidate will also work with vendors to review technical documents related to new radio systems and resolve complicated technical issues that may arise with radio equipment. Additional responsibilities will include: managing the department’s inventory of radio parts and equipment; updating and maintaining records of radio systems; serving as a liaison between NYCT and various support and material vendors, in-house maintenance groups and user departments; providing technical support, writing procedures, knowledge transfer and training (as required) to other NYCT staff; developing and managing projects during design, review procedures, drawings, contract specifications and implementation/turn up of radio systems.
Desired Skills
- Proven trouble shooting capabilities using Radio Communication test equipment such as Communication Analyzer, TIMS sets, Multimeters, Spectrum Analyzer, and Watt-meters.
- Experience in delivering training.
- Familiarization with Layer 2/3 routers. ALU Certifications are a plus.
- Excellent written, project management, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
Education and Experience:
Telecommunications Associate I - IV
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in voice telecommunications (telephone, radio, microwave, fiber optic and cellular service), telecommunications technology, electronics, physics, and/or planning and analysis of electronics system and one year satisfactory full-time experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, and/or administrative duties in a voice telecommunications or closely-related electronics planning, electronics management, and/or electronics service environment; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in voice telecommunications (telephone, radio, microwave, fiber optic and cellular service), telecommunications technology, electronics, physics, and/or planning and analysis of electronics systems and two years of the experience described in “1” above; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of the experience described in “1” above; or
4. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2”, or “3” above. College education not used for meeting the minimum requirements in “1” or “2” above may be substituted for experience on the basis of each 30 semester credits of undergraduate college education, including or supplemented by 6 semester credits in voice telecommunications (telephone, radio, microwave, fiber optic and cellular service), telecommunications technology, electronic, physics, and/or planning and analysis of electronic systems for six months of the experience described in “1” above, up to a maximum of two years of experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one year of the experience described in “1” above.
Telecommunications Specialist I – III
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in voice telecommunications (telephone, radio, microwave, fiber optic and cell service), telecommunications technology, electronics, physics, and/or planning and analysis of electronic systems, and three years of satisfactory full-time experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, and/or administrative duties in a voice telecommunications or closely-related electronics planning, electronics management, and/or electronics service environment, one year of which much have been specialized work in a consultative or supervisory capacity; Or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in voice telecommunications (telephone, radio, microwave, fiber optic and cell service), telecommunications technology, electronics, physics, and/or planning and analysis of electronic systems, and four years of experience as described in “1" above, one year of which much have been specialized work in a consultative or supervisory capacity; Or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in “1" above, one year of which much have been specialized work in a consultative or supervisory capacity; Or
4. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1", “2" or “3" above. College education may be substituted for experience on the basis of six months of experience as described in “1" above for each 30 semester credits of undergraduate college education including or supplemented by 6 semester credits in voice telecommunications (telephone, radio, microwave, fiber optic and cell service), telecommunications technology, electronics, physics, and/or planning and analysis of electronic systems. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma and at least three years of the experience as described in “1" above, one year of which much have been specialized work in a consultative or supervisory capacity.
Desired Skills:
- Strong knowledge of IP networking.
- Advanced PBX programming.
- Call Center management experience (preferably in an Avaya or Cisco Call Manager environment).
- Strong working knowledge of Avaya Aura CM 6.x or higher, Aura Messaging, Call Management System (CMS) 16.x or higher, NICE or Verint recording systems, IP Office 9.x or higher, SAL, NECTAR, Ribbon (C20 Platform) and VPFM is preferred.
- Experience managing and/or installing PBX, Unified Communications, and Call Center systems, particularly Voice Over IP systems, may be substituted for computer systems development, programming, and data base administration.
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
