Summary
Assistant Engineer Level 1 assists in designing, developing, implementing, and analyzing technical systems and facilities for MTA C&D.
This role performs simple routine engineering design tasks with standard techniques—and assists more senior engineers in preparing plans, designs, computation methods, and reports.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Engineer Level 1 shall work under the direction of a Manager or Engineer.
Perform elementary engineering work in scope development, design, request for contract development proposals, or capital construction oversight and/or inspection.
Assistant Engineer Level 1 may perform related support functions for capital projects, such as project controls, environmental engineering, or various engineering/technical functions.
Assistant Engineer Level 1 will also receive training in engineering, construction, project management, and/or capital project support work of moderate difficulty and responsibility.
Participate in site visits and fieldwork at various facilities and infrastructure of the MTA operating agencies, including active construction sites.
Manage and contribute to a variety of challenging projects.
Depending upon assignment, various shifts/days may encompass full participation in all aspects of the organization.
Apply academic learning to engineering principles, critical thinking, and analysis.
Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in the appropriate Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Communications, Track, Signals, Environmental, Fire Protection) from an EAC/ABET accredited institution.
Must have a minimum of eighteen (18) months as an Engineer Trainee.
Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Competencies:
Must be capable of working on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local jurisdiction permitting regulations is a plus.
Analytical ability, pro-active attitude, willingness to learn, and an ability to think "outside the box" when required.
A general understanding of current design, engineering software, and Microsoft Office is required.
