HOURS OF WORK: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (7 1/2 hours/day)

SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of leases (lessor & lessee), subscription-based Information Technology arrangements, and fixed assets. The incumbent will be responsible for processing journal entries and analyzing accounting transactions, and assist with the preparation of footnote disclosures, with an emphasis on leases and fixed assets.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review reports and prepare monthly journal entries on leases, subscription-based Information Technology arrangements, fixed assets capitalization and other related transactions.
- Review lease procurement contracts and purchase orders to ensure proper accounting treatment. Prepare the annual composite of leased vehicles for financial reporting in accordance with GASB 87.
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts with subsystem reports for accuracy and timely resolution of variances.
- Coordinate with Procurement, business operations, MTA Real Estate, MTA IT, Yardi systems, and outsourced Real Estate Accounting provider to process transactions and resolve issues.
- Prepare and review account analysis, quarterly Rollforward and disclosure reports.
- Prepare information as needed for internal and external audits.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Analyst – Level I
- Academic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); pivot table knowledge preferred, but not required.
- Good writing skills and oral communication skills. Communication and collaboration skills are very important in this role.
- Must have good analytical, problem-solving and quantitative skills.
- The individual should be comfortable working as part of a group as well as independently.
Analyst – Level II
- Must possess experience with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Must have knowledge of monthly general ledger closing and financial reporting.
- Working knowledge of General Ledger System.
- Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), macro development and pivot table knowledge preferred.
- Must possess good writing skills and oral communication skills.
- Must have excellent analytical, problem-solving and quantitative skills.
Analyst – Level III
- Must possess understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Must have experience with monthly general ledger closing and financial reporting.
- Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), including macro development and pivot tables.
- Must have excellent analytical, problem-solving and quantitative skills.
- Must possess outstanding writing skills and good communication skills.
- Must be able to convey information both in a precise technical manner and in a concise understandable manner.
- Must be comfortable working as part of a group as well as independently.
- Must be able to perform the functions of this position without the need for direct hands-on supervision from the immediate supervisor of this position. It is expected that the individual in this position will take initiative to resolve issues without constant supervision.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Analyst – Level I
Required
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in accounting, finance, business, business administration, economics or related field). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Analyst – Level II
Required
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in accounting, finance, business, business administration, economics or related field). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum 2 years financial/accounting experience with a major government or corporate entities. A master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
Analyst – Level III
Required
- Bachelor’s degree (preferably in accounting, finance, business, business administration, economics or related field). An equivalent combination of education and experience from may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum 4 years of progressive financial/accounting experience with a major government or corporate entities. A master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
Preferred
- MBA or CPA
- Experience working with contracts and purchase orders (financial compliance)
- Experience in PeopleSoft or similar ERP system and lease accounting software
