Summary

This position is responsible for assisting with the development and preparation of LIRR train schedules for use by customers in both print and electronic format. Timetables are produced for all schedule changes as well as special events, special services and track work programs. This position is also responsible for recommending service and operating improvements to address customer scheduling issues.

Responsibilities:

-Assist with the development, publication, and distribution all LIRR Branch timetables for all schedule changes including special timetables to communicate scheduled service for construction/maintenance projects, holiday and special events. This requires extensive knowledge of scheduling software, printing, distribution requirements and printing contracts.

-Assist with the development of coordinated rail and bus schedules with service providers.

-Provide scheduling support to Market Development service initiatives to increase ridership and market share.

-Maintain currency of LIRR website information.

-Provide Command Center staffing as required in response to emergencies, weather conditions, service  disruptions and special programs.

-Perform ridership counts as directed.

Qualifications:

-Bachelor's Degree preferred.

-Scheduling experience preferred.

-Demonstrated proficiency in schedule development/production.

-Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

-Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously

-Analytical and problem-solving skills.

-Possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to foster interdepartmental cooperation between departments having diverse objectives.

-Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

-Desktop publishing experience such as InDesign preferred.

-Demonstrated knowledge of LIRR timetables, crew books and equipment manipulations.

-Prior Train Planning Scheduling System, (TPSS) experience is preferred.

Other Information

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include, but is not limited to a pre-screening assessment (i.e., physical, written and/ or practical evaluation) and interview. Candidates forfeit further consideration in the process if they fail to participate in any step of the process when scheduled. Make up dates/times will not be given. In addition, LIRR employee applicants must be in their current position for the 12 months immediately preceding the close date of this posting and must possess a satisfactory work history, including attendance and discipline record. A record of more than ten sick days without medical documentation in two of the last three years is considered unsatisfactory attendance.  Not all qualified applicants are guaranteed an interview due to the competitive selection process. A medical examination and safety sensitive drug/alcohol test may also be required.
