Summary
The MTA Construction & Development is seeking a Technical Editor to manage and coordinate all aspects of the Digital Strategy organizational change management communications plan.
The Technical Editor is a detail-oriented individual within MTA Construction & Development who prepares and edits technical documents related to capital projects and complex technical matters. This position may review the work of technical writers; prepare project documents, specifications, reports, bulletins, articles, and memos; design templates and graphics; develop training manuals or materials; and maintain online technical content. The incumbent applies detailed knowledge on various technical topics, web coding, and editorial guidelines. The technical editor has excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and composition skills.
Responsibilities
This role will develop and implement communications documents (webpages, emails, manuals, policies, procedures, presentations, training materials) related to C&D's Digital Strategy to reflect new business processes, new technology, changes in organizational structure and culture to maximize employee adoption of the digital strategy within C&D.
Works with technical staff, project management teams, and senior leadership to develop and edit documents while ensuring document accuracy.
Review technical documents for content, clarity, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style.
Makes any necessary corrections to technical documents.
Provides feedback and guidance to technical writers.
Ensures that all written content meets relevant standards.
Develops, communicates, and adheres to goals for content, workflow, and the aim of writing.
Creates templates for technical writers that are easy to apply and adapt.
Conducts quality assurance on all printed documents, including project documents (such as Project Requirements Design Criteria), technical specifications, reports, newsletters, brochures, posted materials, etc.
May maintain technical website content.
May handle sensitive and confidential information.
Conforms to strict editing guidelines and security protocols.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communication, Business Administration, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Engineering, Architecture, other relevant technical disciplines, or a related field.
Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience.
Master's degree in one of the disciplines above or a related field is preferred.
Proven experience as a technical writer and working with various style guides.
Demonstrated experience in communicating and editing technical concepts.
Experience with desktop publishing, multimedia production, and online documentation software.
Excellent computer and word processing skills.
Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and page composition skills
Experience with web coding and authoring systems, such as HTML or XML, preferred.
Skilled in communicating with technical staff at all levels of the organization.
Ability to adhere to deadlines and handle pressure.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to mentor technical writers.
