Mechanical Engineer I- $77,921-$98,128
Mechanical Engineer II- $92,639-$111,917
Mechanical Engineer III- $103,630-$122,168
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The selected incumbent will be responsible for providing technical engineering design and support for Mechanical Systems at all Infrastructure Operations, including, Buildings, Facilities, Stations, Yards, and Barns. Mechanical systems Includes: HVAC, Fire Suppression, Sprinklers, Plumbing, Domestic water, Drainage, and boilers. This Position will be developing specifications, scopes, project profiles, designs, estimates, construction drawings, evaluating new technology, ensuring that designs/installations adhere to specifications, codes, industry practices and safety standards, as well as NYCT policies for maintenance and construction work.
The selected incumbent will provide onsite technical support to NYCT operating division and review work for subordinates, responding to emergency trouble calls 24/7 during off tour days and will represent the Sr. Director or engineer in charge of the Electro-Mechanical division.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Mechanical Engineer I
New York State license as a Professional Engineer and four years of full-time experience in mechanical Engineering. A master’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college will be accepted as equivalent to one year of the full-time experience in mechanical engineering.
Mechanical Engineer II
A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and four years of full-time experience in mechanical Engineering with at least one year in the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional or specific expertise within the discipline of mechanical engineering. A master’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college will be accepted as equivalent to one year of the full-time experience in mechanical engineering.
Mechanical Engineer III
A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and four years of full-time experience in mechanical Engineering with at least three years in the last four years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional or specific expertise within the discipline of mechanical engineering, coordinates multiple projects and oversees design staff for in house operation projects.
A master’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college will be accepted as equivalent to one year of the full-time experience in mechanical engineering.
DESIRED SKILLS
Experience in the following areas: Mechanical systems design experience in sprinkler system, plumbing system, HVAC design and familiarity with all applicable regulations and codes as well as safety policies. Familiarity with the continuing/evolving ADA rules and experience in using NYS Codes, NFPA, ASHRAE, ASME Codes which are nationally recognized standards. Excellent interpersonal, oral, written, organization and negotiating skills, demonstrated engineering decision-making, and ability to work independently and as part of a team of professionals are all essential
SELECTION METHOD
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.
All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
