Position Objective

 

The Senior Manager, Ridership Analysis will assist the Assistant Deputy Director of Ridership in monitoring, analyzing, and reporting daily, weekly, and annual ridership. This position will manage the modeling of system ridership data through all ticket types, count programs, and other sources. It will be responsible for the analysis of MNR's current and future service strategies to adhere to MTA service standards, identifying strategies to close gaps as needed. The Senior Manager will act as a technical liaison to MTA headquarters for schedule-related data to support FTA reporting requirements and Federal Title VI Compliance Program.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead the development and management of system/model leveraging electronic and other ticket sales data from MTA Train Time, GCT Counts, and other sources to provide comprehensive train-level ridership and origin/destination data that will guide near- and mid-term service planning decisions.
  • Analyze all service plan adjustments for compliance with service standards leveraging data analysis scripts and provide schedule-related data to MTA headquarters for State and Federal reporting.
  • Manage MNR's load weight re-calibration model, onboard surveying, and daily reporting of maximum load estimates for M7 and M8 fleets for service planning purposes.
  • Manage assessment and potential implementation of automated passenger counting technologies.
  • Review and/or develop periodic (weekly, monthly, etc.) reports on Metro-North ridership for executive and public consumption, using data from manual and automatic counting and ticket sales, and including conditions at Grand Central Terminal and outlying stations.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge of data analysis programs (SQL, Python, R, etc.)
  • Proven coding experience.
  • Proven Knowledge of Word, Excel and/or comparable PC applications
  • Proven oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact well with other railroad and MTA departments at all levels.
  • Detail orientation with strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize workload while adhering to deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of railroad operations, and intermodal/connecting service transit operations
  • Knowledge of ridership analysis and service planning
  • Familiarity with the New York Metropolitan region and its typical travel patterns

 

Required Education/Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematics, or in a related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education, and/or technical credentials to include four (4) additional years of related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience analyzing and reporting data.

Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”)

Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.

Metro-North may also require the applicant to undergo a physical ability test, and, if the Company extends a conditional offer, may require him or her to undergo a medical examination, which may include toxicological testing. Additional Criteria for Current Employees: Current Metro-North employees must be in active service to be eligible for consideration. Agreement Employees applying for a position outside of their present craft are required to have worked in your current union for at least one (1) year preceding the Application Deadline to be eligible to apply for a posted position, and have completed the agreed upon formal training commitment, including on-the-job training or lock-in requirement, if applicable (for example: Signal Trainee, Foreman-In-Training, etc.). If you are transferring to another craft, you may be required to forfeit your seniority in your present union. Non-agreement employees must have worked in your current position for a minimum of one (1) year preceding the Application Deadline. Along with a background investigation (including but not limited to, employment, education, and criminal history), employees are also subject to an internal investigation, which includes an evaluation not limited to discipline records and performance assessments.
