Summary

The Safety Specialist Level 1, under the direction of the Safety Manager, will oversee safety operations of construction activities in accordance with contract requirements and best management safety practices.

Responsibilities

Duties include (but are not limited to):

Conduct routine site assessments to identify hazardous work practices and conditions.

 

Participate in safety meetings, job briefings, design reviews, and progress meetings; review contractor-submitted health and safety plans, job hazard analyses, means and methods, and pre-task plans to ensure compliance with MTA C&D's Safety Program and regulatory conformity.

 

Participate in and document accident and incident investigations. 

 

Prepare weekly performance reports.

 

Education and Experience

 

Associate's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, or Construction Safety. 

 

Must have a minimum of three (3) years of related experience.

 

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Driver's License (required for some Business Units)

Must obtain OSHA 30-hour card in the Construction Industry within six (6) months of hire date.

 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Proficient computer skills (i.e., Windows environment, Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.) and strong business administrative skills (i.e., presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.).

 

Other Information

Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the "Commission").
