Salary Range:Level 1 - $66,127 - $92,578

Level 2 - $70,706 - $98,988

Hours of Work:9:00 AM -5:30 PM (7.5 hours/day) or as required

 

 

Summary:

The purpose of this position is to collect and clarify business requirements for applications.   Positions may also assist in business planning, needs analysis, and business risk assessment, as well as consulting with the customer to best support the business through the effective use of technology.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Level 1:

  • Participates in requirements gathering sessions, producing basic documentation, typically under the guidance of a more senior business analyst, to catalogue customer needs.
  • Creates requirements definition documentation and simple functional specifications, under guidance, to ensure clarity around customer needs and corresponding deliverables.
  • Validates and obtains sign-off for functional requirements/specifications, under guidance.
  • Documents changes to requirements throughout the project and routes information following established guidelines, under guidance, to ensure timeliness and accuracy of deliverables.
  • Tracks and reports on project progress against BA defined requirements throughout the project life cycle.
  • Work with the team on technical reports using tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Assist with managing issues, reporting and resolution within the ServiceNow system.

 

 

Level 2:

Same as Level 1 with the following additional responsibilities:

  • Facilitates requirements gathering sessions for basic requests, proactively drawing out requirements from stakeholders to catalogue customer needs. 
  • Performs gap analysis to identify opportunities for process improvement or management control of work flow.
  • Creates requirements definition documentation and simple functional specifications to capture business needs and for validation with the client and shared with project stakeholders.
  • Validates and obtains sign-off for functional requirements/specifications.
  • Takes ownership of changes to requirements throughout the project, documenting and routing any changes as appropriate. 

 

 

Level 3:

Same as Level 2 with the following additional responsibilities:

  • Facilitates requirements gathering sessions to understand and document complex business needs, often eliciting hidden requirements and/or clarifying vague or unclear requirements. 
  • Applies thorough understanding of business processes and user needs to formulate and define system scope and objectives.
  • Analyzes business operations and processes to identify opportunities for process improvement, management control of work, or automation.  Generates process and solution options and reviews with appropriate stakeholders.  
  • Can readily re-apply business insights to devise new technical or non-technical solutions to business issues
  • Creates workflow diagrams to document current and future business environment.
  • On smaller size projects, tracks progress of projects to ensure alignment to requirements; manages any deviations from requirements to ensure resolution. On larger size projects, contributes to tracking and management of requirements.
  • Reviews test plans and scripts for completeness and accuracy.
  • Provides direct support to clients on how to optimally apply installed solutions, answering client questions and training new users

 

Level 4 

Same as Level 3 with the following additional responsibilities: 

  • Leads business analysis for projects that may impact multiple business areas.   Develops and champions requirements that consider the needs of each business area. 
  • Proactively identifies opportunities and develops options for consideration by clients to improve business processes.  Leads process improvement efforts. 
  • Resolves conflicting/competing needs from different areas of the business, tactfully, and in a way that satisfies all parties to ensure requirements are met with minimal conflict of interest. 
  • Monitors available metrics and collects feedback post-implementation to ensure system and business requirements are met. 
  • Assists in evaluating new technologies that may enable business success. 
  • Builds use cases; reviews test plans for completeness and accuracy to guarantee quality. 
  • Provides direct support to clients on how to optimally apply installed solutions, answering client questions and training new users 
  • Understands how various new technologies can meet business needs and takes into account the business risks and benefits of adopting a new technology. 

 

Qualifications:

 

Level 1:

  • Can document business requirements to effectively capture the business needs and convey understanding to technical staff.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools such as Power BI/Tableau and ServiceNow/JIRA.

 

Level 2:

Same as Level 1 with the following additional qualifications:

•  Can break down business processes to key functions through the use of process and data flow diagrams or similar methodologies.

•  Analyzes a chain of events and applies technical knowledge following established procedures and/or detailed specifications.

• Takes calls from business leads and resolves many support issues on how to use a client-specific application effectively, within their            area of expertise and escalating as appropriate

 

Level 3:

Same as Level 2 with the following additional qualifications:

  • Analyzes process and data flows, identifying potential redundancies, overlaps in accountability, key decision points, etc.
  • Makes recommendations for action plans or streamlining to improve business performance.

 

Level 4 

 Same as level 3 with the following additional qualifications:

  • Clarifies vague, undefined business needs, helping users define requirements and determining how to best address them.   
  • Can identify potential opportunities to automate and/or improve an existing process.  
  • Supports the definition of requirements, and how to best address them, considering the goals of the whole organization.   
  • Conducts ROI and other financial analysis to support project funding/prioritization 

 

 

 

 

Education and Experience:

 

Level 1:

  • Typical candidates will possess 1-3 years of relevant experience and BS in Computer Science or related fields or equivalent experience.
  • Possesses basic understanding of the applications environment and the project execution process. 

 

Level 2:

  • Typical candidates will possess 3+ years of relevant experience and BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related fields or equivalent experience or M.S. in a related field
  • Has acquired knowledge of the business functions supported, existing systems, and the company’s products and services.

 

Level 3:

  • Typical candidates will possess 5+ years of relevant experience and BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related fields or equivalent experience or M.S. in a related field and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Possess a good understanding of the different systems/applications in use in the area supported and how they inter-relate. Knows who to engage and coordinate with when a system they are working on may impact another system/application.  
  • Seen as a resource on how current systems are used and operate within the client area(s) supported.

 

Level 4 

  • Typical candidates will possess 7+ years of relevant experience and BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related fields or equivalent experience or M.S. in a related field and 5+ years of relevant experience. 
  • Seen as an expert resource on how current systems are used and operate within the area(s) supported.
