Responsibilities
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Chief Officer, Bus Technology Systems, the incumbent will contribute to projects for technology initiatives laid out by the New York State Governor's office to be deployed on buses. These initiatives include: on-bus deployment of digital screens for onboard announcements, customer Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, and others.
• Responsible for domain research such as data gathering and validation, software and systems engineering task - such as architecture, interface specification, coding/related application support for the projects and field installation support for new systems, quality control such as requirements verification or hardware and software testing, reviewing/overseeing and/or executing various test procedures.
• Overseeing vendor compliance with requirements while providing ad hoc technical support as needed.
• Coordinate and oversee meetings with a broad range of both internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Operations Planning, Bus depot personnel, vendors, and other contractor staff), facilitating pilot projects, preparing, or reviewing technical or business documents, estimating levels-of-effort, and other tasks.

• Develop and support of Digital Operator Vehicle Condition Report(D-OVCR) initiative planned for deployment on all 5,800+ buses throughout NYCT and MTABus fleets. D-OVCR is crucial to maintenance and safe operation of buses in compliance with state and federal moto vehicle regulations the initiative involves hardware and complex software systems. In addition, it is key to supporting Automated Bus Lan Enforcement (ABLE) program.
• Contribute to the group objective of ensuring that each technology effort conforms to the overall goals and vision of the Department of Buses. This includes integrating the chosen solutions across multiple platforms, agencies, and divisions to yield an effective, resilient, and open foundation for DOB’s technology initiatives.
Education and Experience
Computer Specialist (Software) I-IV
1. A Master’s degree from an accredited college with a major in computer science or a related field, or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school; plus one (1) year of satisfactory full-time computer software experience in one or more of the following areas: computer systems development and analysis, applications programming, database administration, maintenance and support, systems programming, data communications, mainframe development, mobile development, web development and design, at least one (1) year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits, with a major in computer science or a related field; plus two (2) years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience as described in “1” above, at least one (1) year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six (6) years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience as described in “1” above, at least one (1) year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
4. A satisfactory equivalent of combined education and experience requirements. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one (1) year of satisfactory full-time experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project.
