JOB TITLE: Deputy Director – Metro-North Revenue
SALARY RANGE: $121,479 – $159,442

LOCATION: 2 Broadway New York, NY 10004
HOURS OF WORK: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm (7 1/2 hours/day)

This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

Summary
Plans and directs the activities of Metro-North Railroad’s Revenue Accounting department.
Major activities comprise the accounting, reporting, and auditing of all fare revenues,
corporate billings/collections, and revenue systems enhancements projects responsibilities.

Responsibilities
Select, develop, and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career
development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling.
Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review
performance of staff. Create a professional environment that respects individual
differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.
Directs the activities of the Passenger Revenue Accounting group for the accounting,
reporting, operations and controls of all ticket revenues and distribution venues, ticket
stock control, refunds, and audits. Directs the implementation of new revenue tariffs as
required.
Establish system controls for new financial systems and develop procedures to improve
existing systems which include all revenue accounting systems, banking software,
Accounts Receivable and PeopleSoft systems. Responsible to direct the coordination
efforts with Information Technology and the MTA Business Service Center.
Work with the MTA, its agencies, and other MN departments to plan, design and
implement the transitioning to the MTA OMNY revenue system. Develop proper internal
controls, auditing techniques and reporting to serve the informational needs of the
company.
Direct the audit programs and compliance for revenue sales and collections for all ticket
selling venues including the Ticket Office Machines, Ticket Vending Machines, and
Conductor sales.
Development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating
to Passenger Revenue Accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting
Principles and Corporate policies and goals.
Strong leadership skills to effectively direct and motivate staff.
Strong ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
Excellent quantitative, analytic, and deductive reasoning capabilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Hyperion or comparable applications.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Strong ability to adhere to deadlines to ensure accurate and efficient reporting of data.
In-depth knowledge of accounting regulations and thorough knowledge of accounting
practices.
Ability to monitor and manage results against audit and control procedures.
Knowledge of database design as it relates to financial systems.
Working knowledge of an automated financial system.
Self-starter with ability to learn and document financial and operational processes
without supervision.
Ability to succeed in a fast paced / high pressure environment.
Ability to understand and interpret contracts to manage financial compliance.

Qualifications
Position requires ability to multi-task and to prioritize workflow.
Manage unforeseen reporting requests and quick response to audit and FOIL related
requests.
Must be able to take on responsibilities that are not directly related to the core functions
of the department and respond within the deadlines requested.
Has moderate level of authority for the decision making, staffing, and budget for their
functional area of responsibility, subject to approval regarding the most significant
Business and Policy issues by the Chief / Senior Management. Decision-making
authority over their functional area of responsibility is somewhat defined with the
freedom to determine how to accomplish work goals. Guided by substantially
diversified procedures and specialized standards.
Makes recommendations for policy and procedural changes with final approval from
departmental management and supports implementation of such changes.
Provides input into overall strategy and approach in consultation with departmental
management and/or HQ Senior Management.

Education and Experience
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or business-related field or an equivalent
combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge of Revenue
Systems & reporting.

Minimum ten (10) years managerial experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a
general accounting function which includes in depth knowledge of automated financial
systems and dealing with technical issues.
Minimum five years of experience in a supervisory capacity.

Preferred

MBA or CPA
Revenue Accounting or related experience.
Experience working with contracts (financial compliance and / or negotiation support).
Other duties as assigned
