Responsibilities
SUMMARY:
Running buses as a business means being customer focused. It means recognizing that customers have choices, and that they exercise those choices as bus ridership is declining in a city with growing population and employment. In short, buses must actively compete for its customer's business. There must be no disconnect between what we are selling and what the customers want to buy. Thus, our goals must be to deliver fast and effective service; communicate with our customers at every point of the journey; provide a comfortable, reliable experience; while, as a public trust, making every dollar count.
To achieve these goals, the MTA must continue to adopt key technologies, driven primarily by a vision that engages and serves all affected stakeholders. Doing this in a meaningful way enables a powerful feedback loop that is already being seen stretching from the planning process, to service delivery, to the customers experience, and then fed back again to the planning process. This loop brings the planned operation closer to the day-to-day reality of service delivery. To further these high level goals and objectives, the MTA is engaged in multiple on-board bus technology projects that include Automated Bus Lane Enforcement, Traffic Signal Priority, real-time Customer Information Systems and real time Service Management Systems. These projects involve direct and indirect collaboration with the New York City Department of Transportation, the New York City Department of Finance and various vendors/consultants/contactors. These initiatives aim to increase the reliability of bus service and to improve bus speeds in the five boroughs. These projects and initiatives are in need of committed candidates to provide project delivery support, data analysis, scenario modelling and hands-on hardware and software stewardship.
Primary Responsibilities:
Contributing to project planning, budgeting, and overall bus technology strategy
Conducting and presenting feasibility analysis and studies for proposed bus technology projects
Create and manage documentation and reports for projects
Identify the goals and requirements of each project
Providing operational support such as liaising with stakeholders, tracking timelines, etc.
Track, forecast and report on project progress including metrics and challenges
Required skills:
Interest in learning and sharing knowledge
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Exceptional research and reporting skills
Strong understanding in project management and data analysis
