This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

SUMMARY:

The Financial Data Associate Level I, II, and III provides varying levels of support and analysis dependent on the level to the Revenue Analysis Unit.  Each level is differentiated by the level of complexity needed for various type of analysis. i.e., the least complex analysis is done by the Level I, moderately complex analysis is done by the Level II, and the most complex analysis is conducted by the Level III. The main role of the Financial Data Associate is processing, analyzing, and providing quality control on transit data pertaining to fare collections and fare sales, as well as analyzing, interpreting, and creating reports on transit ridership, revenue, and other transportation financial data. This position will use data analysis tools, reporting tools, Microsoft Office suite, and more. In addition, this position is also required to assist or independently conduct data maintenance work on a large-scale database, responsible for in-house database modifications to incorporate changes in fare structure, in reporting requirements or based on business needs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Maintain and manage data pertaining to fare collection, revenue, and ridership on New York City public transport in database.

  • Process, analyze and conduct quality control of data by employing methods of statistical analysis and with help of standard and in-house software.
  • Analyze data in large scale database; create standard and ad-hoc reports using Microsoft Office suite, various reporting tools, and other software to fulfill requests of internal and external end users.
  • Data system modifications may be required to incorporate changes in fare structure and reporting requirements to improve data integrity and reliability. These modifications may also change based upon other business needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

The decision making described below will vary in complexity dependent on the assigned Levels I and II.

 Has limited level of authority for decision making, which is subject to approval by departmental management. Decision-making authority over their immediate responsibilities is routine or semi-routine with some diversification and occurs within established, detailed practices and instructions and/or with immediately available assistance.

  • May perform analysis and research. Reports findings to immediate supervisor.  May be involved with quality assurance reviews as directed by immediate supervisor.
  • Exercises proper judgment in responding to inquiries while referring more complex issues to the appropriate individuals within the department.
  • Supports implementation of policies and procedures for the department’s group. Does not make recommendations for policy and procedural changes without final approval from the Unit Chief.

 The decision making described below will apply to the incumbent in the Level III role:

 Has some level of authority for the decision making, staffing, and budget for their functional area of responsibility, subject to approval regarding the most significant Business and Policy issues by departmental management and/or Senior Management. Decision-making authority over their functional area of responsibility is within well-defined, somewhat diversified procedures and precedents.

  • Analyzes and makes recommendations for policy and procedural changes with final approval from departmental management and/or Senior Management and supports implementation of such changes.
  • May provide input into overall strategy and approach in consultation with departmental management and/or HQ Senior Management.

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES        

Three Associate Levels – I, II, III,

 Level I Associate

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Database Management systems.
  • Basic data analysis and scripting skills.
  • Ability to learn new software and scripting.
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn organizational and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn to work with all internal levels within a given organization.
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn communicate and interact well with external agencies.
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn completing short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible.
  • Proficiency in and/or ability to learn analytical and/or quantitative skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in or ability to learn the Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Level II Associate

  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis and scripting skills.
  • Demonstrated retrieving and analyzing data from Oracle database.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing financial data, interpreting financial results, and creating financial reports.
  • Knowledge of database maintenance.
  • Must be able to work with all internal levels within a given organization.
  • Must possess ability to communicate and interact well with external agencies.
  • Must possess ability to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible.
  • Must possess analytical and/or quantitative skills.

Level III Associate

  • Demonstrated competent to expert proficiency data analysis tool and scripting skills.
  • Have exposure to the AWS data.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing automation tasks.
  • Must possess demonstrated ability to communicate and interact well with external agencies.
  • Must possess demonstrated ability to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently.
  • Must possess demonstrated analytical and/or quantitative skills.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

         Level I Associate

REQUIRED:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field from an accredited college; and
  • Minimum one (1) year of data system analysis experience.

 Level II Associate

REQUIRED:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field from an accredited college; and
  • Minimum three (3) years related data system analysis experience.

 Level III Associate

REQUIRED:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field from an accredited college; and
  •  Minimum four (4) years related data system analysis experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in data analysis and database maintenance.
  • Minimum three (3) years working experience with financial data analysis and reporting.

  PREFERRED:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of database. Both transportation financial data analysis skills and database processing and maintenance skills.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
