Compensation:

Manager, Special Equipment: $83,309 - $123,620 (Grade E)

Responsibilities: 

This position is responsible for managing the procurement and contract administration for the purchase of new work cars, support existing work car projects and other specialized rolling stock to satisfy user department requirements for safe reliable, and efficient operating equipment.  Additional responsibilities include preparation and review of all contract specifications, submittals, data analyses, drawings, and equipment test reports.  Contract administration duties include progress review meetings, correspondence, review of payment requests, cost and no-cost change orders, program budgets, concept of operations, project profiles, master plans, project management, warranty administration, and contract close-out.  Concurrent goals of this position are improvement of environmental impact, and reduction of long-term maintenance and operating costs. These goals are carried out with technical and specialized skills through investigation, development, and implementation of new technologies, engineering strategies, and green initiatives.

Education and Experience:
  1. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, and seven (7) years of related experience, of which three (3) years must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity; or
  2. Satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.

Desired Skills:

  • Five (5) years of experience in the work car/track maintenance industry. Experience in rapid transit environment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical/electrical engineering and maintenance/operation relative to various specialized work equipment. Thorough understanding of design, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with failure analysis and corrective action relative to work equipment. 
  • Experience with NYCT Car Equipment including Pump Cars, Vacuum Trains, One-Ton Crane Cars, and Three-Ton Crane Cars. 
  • Able to lead team of engineers, as well as work independently. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Excellent organizational skills.  Engineering Economics and Budgeting. 
  • Knowledge of engineering principles applied to vehicle equipment design. 
  • Ability to report to field or off-site locations anytime (24-hours, 7-days a week) to perform assigned tasks

Selection Method:

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.

All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MaBSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.

Other Information:
