*This is a civil service position. Selected candidates must pass a civil service exam and be appointed from the resulting list to gain permanent status.
Compensation:
The salary is $67.39 per hour for a 40-hour week plus night differentials. Benefits include paid vacation/sick days/holidays, a pension plan, comprehensive health plan, deferred compensation plan and a free NYC Transportation pass.
Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment such as boilers, furnaces, refuse incinerators, pumps, fans, engines, turbines, generators, electrical, heating and ventilating equipment, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, etc. The selected candidate may operate or supervise the operation of control consoles in control rooms and perform related work.
This position is also responsible for supervising assigned personnel; preparing work schedules and directing the assignment of personnel; preparing equipment and material requisitions required for the operation, maintenance and repair of equipment; directing and evaluating studies of operating procedures; determining and directing work procedures; keeping records; preparing reports; and performing related supervisory work.
Education:
- One year of full-time experience as Stationary Engineer in charge of a high pressure plant supervising at least three stationary engineers in the operation, maintenance and adjustment of high-pressure boilers; and
- A valid License for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings.
Candidates may also be required to possess a valid Certificate of Equivalent Instruction issued by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and/or a valid Certificate of Qualification for Refrigerating Machine Operator (Unlimited Capacity) issued by the New York City Fire Department. In addition to the aforementioned license and certificates, candidates may also be required, within 90 days from the day of appointment, to obtain a valid Standpipe Certificate and Automatic Sprinkler Certificate issued by the New York City Fire Department. The license and certificates must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
