JOB TITLE: Assistant Medical Director
SALARY RANGE: $163,990 - $194,250

HOURS OF WORK: 7 1/2 hours/day

In order to protect our employees and continue to provide safe and reliable service to our communities, as of November 14, 2021 we are requiring all new MTA hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their start date. MTA will consider exceptions for religious and medical reasons, where appropriate. “Fully vaccinated” means you must have both doses of a 2-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the second dose or have received 1 dose of a 1-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the dose. Proof of your vaccination status in the form of a CDC vaccine card must be submitted prior to your start date.
This position will directly supervise the activities of the Staff Physicians and/or Physician Assistants across the MTA HQs in conjunction with the Medical Director(s). This position will have direct responsibility for the MTA Physical Therapists at the medical facilities. This position will perform medical evaluations which include pre-employment, periodic, medical surveillance, fitness for duty, return to duty examinations, FMCSA/DOT/FRA medical exams and render appropriate work status decisions. The incumbent will need to be a certified Medical Review Officer (MRO) to review drug test results in compliance with DOT and FRA regulations and agency policies. In conjunction with the Medical Directors, medical facilities, and MTA agency liaisons, will ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations and company policies and standards. This position will provide testimony as the Occupational Health Services expert in court cases and arbitrations. This position will provide legal review and decision making of policy and procedures.
Work locations may be in Manhattan, Mineola, NY or downtown Brooklyn.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise Staff Physicians, Physician Assistants and Physical Therapists’ performance and documentation of pre-placement medical examinations to determine applicant qualification for positions consistent with regulations and agency policies and standards.
Supervise Staff Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Physical Therapists’ performance and documentation of periodic and other medical examinations as required for positions and make appropriate work status determinations.
Perform medical exams as outlined above.
Perform MRO reviews and determinations.
Provide medical review for FMLA, short term disability and other medical issues as needed by agency departments.
Conduct “peer to peer” discussions with the personal health care providers of employees out sick or injured on duty.
Work with the Corporate Occupational Health Officer, Medical Director, Director of Medical Assessment Center(s), and other clinical staff members as needed for medical review, quality assurance and audit activities.
Work with the Corporate Occupational Health Officer and the Medical Director(s) to develop policies, process and analyze documents, and review proposed system and organizational improvements.
Work with MTA Headquarters staff as well as the Corporate Occupational Health Officer and Medical Director to develop plans and processes under public health emergencies – COVID-19, MERS, SARS, Ebola, and other emergencies declared by the Federal, State and City agencies.
Assist with the legal review and decision making of policy and guidelines.
