In order to protect our employees and continue to provide safe and reliable service to our communities, as of November 14, 2021 we are requiring all new MTA hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their start date, with appropriate, narrow exceptions for religious and medical reasons.  “Fully vaccinated” means you must have both doses of a 2-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the second dose, or have received 1 dose of a 1-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the dose.  Proof of your vaccination status in the form of a CDC vaccine card must be submitted prior to your start date.
 

Inspect, design and specify new equipment and maintenance procedures for existing, retrofitted, and future LIRR facilities HVAC systems. Review and approve mechanical consultant’s HVAC designs and/or proposals. Oversee HVAC maintenance service contracts. Inspect serviced HVAC equipment for contractor performance and compliance to ensure that equipment is reliable and operates in good condition.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Review and analyze facilities requiring HVAC system replacement/ upgrade, calculate cooling loads and select appropriate HVAC equipment. Design, specify and requisition appropriate equipment. Make recommendations to award vendor contracts.
  • Monitor HVAC equipment periodically to ensure proper filter change frequency, other preventative maintenance and equipment proper operating conditions.
  • Review HVAC designs for new systems/ buildings and provide guidance for ventilation systems/controls upgrades. Interface with other LIRR engineering/ capital program groups.
  • Supervise/oversee HVAC Equipment installations, inspect for completeness/code conformance/ work within ASHARE standards, performance test systems and approve.
  • Act as a liaison between LIRR personnel and HVAC contractors to rectify temperature complaints.
  • Review and recommend for approval by manager, proposals, and invoices for payment. Document contractor compliance. Internal/ external written communications as necessary.

 
  • Candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years in HVAC Design & Maintenance experience or an AAS Degree with 8 years of HVAC Design & Maintenance experience.
 
  • This position requires demonstrated hands-on experience designing and writing specifications for HVAC systems by calculating heating and cooling loads, selecting equipment, designing ventilation and control systems overseeing the installation of said system(s). Requires thorough knowledge of packaged roof top systems, split systems, chillers, cooling towers and other air handler systems with ability to determine available utilities to run such systems.
 
  • Must have experience performing site inspections including overseeing/ managing/ interacting with contractors and ensuring work meets ASHARE standards; performance testing of HVAC systems; trouble-shooting temperature complaints and implementing required actions to resolve complaints.
 
  • Must possess effectual and demonstrated interpersonal, communication, managerial and planning skills.


In addition to meeting the minimum requirements of the position, the selection process may include, but is not limited to a pre-screening assessment (i.e., physical, written and/ or practical evaluation) and interview.
